I fell in love with historic ships after reading the poem "Old Ironsides" by Oliver Wendell Holmes in an elementary school literature book with the accompanying story about how the 21 year old Holmes had saved the U.S. S. Constitution from being scraped. My interest spread to all kinds of ships and when ever I travel I make a point of visiting those on display.
