I started researching Courage on Little Round Top in 1989 long before I knew anything about the Internet. It took me five years of part time work before I had gathered enough material to start the first draft. In November 2004, I started researching my second novel on Gettysburg and boy, have things changed. Less than a year later, I had all the material I needed.

If you are interest in doing research on any subject, your first stop should be your local library. Through your library, you can gain access to World Cat and Internet Library Loan. Through World Cat either you or your librarian can search for any book in most libraries in the United States and request them be sent to your local library. While not all books are available through inter library loan, I've been amazed at the number of books they have sent me free of any charges. Many libraries also have other online services helping you to reach Census Records, E-books, and many other rescores.

To help you get started, I am posting some of the links (and many others) I used in researching my next novel on Gettysburg, Courage on Cemetery Hill. I hope you find them useful.
